A very fine 18ct. gold tourbillon keyless open face pocket watch, by Charles Frodsham, London. The silvered dial signed Chas. Frodsham 09780. AD. F msz with black Roman numerals, subsidiary dials for seconds and up and down. Blued steel spade hands, the Nicole Nielsen 3/4 plate movement signed Chas. Frodsham, By Appointment to the King, 27 South Molton Street, London with two Royal Warrants. Double roller lever escapement with raised barrel fusee and Guillaume balance, under glazed dome.

This fine watch was sent to Kew via the HI (Horological Institute) The HI served as a central point that makers could drop watches off and the HI would deliver a batch. It arrived March 1st 1918 and was sent back the same way on April 16th. Frodsham No. 09780, Kew certificate number 17202 scored 91.7 marks and achieved an A e/g (extra good). Charles Frodsham Tourbillon No.09182 attained the highest marks awarded for an English watch, 93.9 marks. and can be seen in the Lord Harris collection at Belmont in Kent.
