D. McGregor & Co. No. 2543
A very fine and rare eight day marine chronometer in a brass strung coromandel box signed on the 4.5 inch silvered dial D. McGregor & Co. Makers to the Admiralty No. 2543 with auxillary compensation in red. Original gold hour and minute hands with subsidiary dials for seconds and state of wind. The spotted movement with cut bimetallic balance, segmental compensation weights and Mercer’s auxillary compensation with blued steel helical balance spring and Earnshaw-type spring detent. The 3-tier coromandel casewith shield shaped cartouche inlaid to the upper lid, the interior mounted with rouched velvet. The mid section with McGregor label and mother of pearl nameplate, the lower section with inset campaign style handles. Original mahogany guard box with label for ship, Col Hobart.
