Handsome mahogany table timepiece. Circa 1855

Dial

5 inch round silvered dial signed Dutton Fleet Street with VR (Victoria Regina) a crown and the date 1855. Roman numerals and blued steel hands. Inside the case the original printed paper label with VR a crown and the number 654.

Case

Highly flame figured mahogany case with lovely patina has an architectural top, patinated brass bezel with bevelled glass, a glazed rear door and block feet.

Movement

Eight day chain fusee movement of superb quality, having tall plates secured with two brackets. The frontplate stamped with Thwaites number 12598, numbered brackets and case.

Height 13 inches (33 cm)

This clock was made by Robert Dutton, the last in a line of famous family clockmakers. Robert Dutton supplied clocks to the Royal household and Government offices. For a similar example see the Royal Collection Trust.
