A rare 18th century japanned table timepiece with pull quarter repeat. Circa 1750
Case
The break arch case beautifully decorated with black and cream japanning with flowers and butterflies. Surmounted by a brass knopped carrying handle. glazed side apertures.
Dial
7 inch break arch brass dial with false pendulum aperture to the arch, silvered oval nameplate below signed Saml Greves, Bromsgrove. Mask spandrels and engraved wheatear border to the silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals and flour de lys half hours. The matted centre with foliate engraving and calendar aperture below XII. Blued steel hands.
Movement
The eight day single fusee movement with original verge escapement and pull quarter repeating the hours on a larger bell, the quarters on two smaller bells. Wonderful foliate engraved backplate with a cherub and ho ho birds.
