A fine and rare George III mahogany longcase regulator with massive gridiron pendulum. The 12 inch square silvered dial with aperture for the hours and fine blued steel hands. The massive eight day seven pillar movement with jewelled pallets, rare sun and planet maintaining power and stop work to the winding sits under a glazed cover. The highly figured flame mahogany case with architectural pediment, raised panel to the base on a double plinth.

Francois Justin Vulliamy was born in Switzerland in 1712 and came to England in circa 1730. He went in to partnership with the Royal Clockmaker Benjamin Gray, watchmaker to King George II, and married Gray’s eldest daughter in 1746. In the 1770s, Justin was joined in business by his son Benjamin.
