A small George III ebonised bracket clock, the six inch arched brass dial with strike-silent subsidiary dial to the arch, cast brass foliate spandrels and silvered chapter ring. The finely matted dial centre with applied oval cartouche nameplate signed John Goodwin London and apertures for the false pendulum and calendar. Blued steel hands. The eight day five pillar fusee movement with verge escapement, striking the hours on a bell, floral engraved backplate.

The ebonised inverted bell top case of lovely mellow patina with brass carrying handle, brass pineapple finials, cast brass frets to the brass framed front door with canted corners, glazed side windows and brass bracket feet.

John Goodwin is recorded as working in the The Strand, London. c. 1770-1820.

This is a very high quality movement, similar in style to bracket clock movements made by some of the leading clockmakers. For example the double backcock used on this clock was also used on bracket clocks made by Vulliamy, William Dutton and Thomas Mudge.
