SOLD

A fine William and Mary quarter repeating timepiece by this eminent maker. The ebony veneered case with brass carrying handle. The brass dial with early winged cherub spandrels and silvered chapter ring, false pendulum aperture and day of the month aperture. Blued steel hands. The single train fusee movement has a verge escapement and pull quarter repeat with the hours sounded on a large bell and the quarters on two smaller bells. The back plate with beautiful scroll engraving.

Jonathan Lowndes was born in c. 1657, free from the Clockmakers' Company in 1680 and worked at the Dial in Pall Mall from 1683 until c.1702.
