A fine marquetry longcase clock of excellent colour and patination by this excellent maker. The eleven inch square dial with cherub and flower spandrels with tulip engraving between them. The well matted centre with plain winding holes, a seconds ring and date aperture. The hands are of exceptional quality. The eight day six pillar movement is fully latched as are the dial feet. Inside countwheel striking the hours on a bell.
The bird and flower marquetry case has a flat top hood with a pierced fret, ebonised spiral pillars and glazed side apertures. The trunk door has a gilt wood lenticle, the floral marquetry is in three panels and incorporates cherubs and birds. The base which is similarly decorated rests on replacement ebonised bun feet.

Jonathan Puller was born in 1662 and apprenticed to Nicholas Coxeter in August 1676, passed over to John Miller in 1679 (probably on Coxeter's death) and became free of the Clockmakers Company in September 1683. He was made assistant of the Company in 1701 and died in 1707.
He is believed to have worked in red Lion Court, Fleet Street and is known to have made watches, bracket and longcase clocks.
