Fine English carriage clock with original mercury gilding to the ormolu case, having fluted Corinthian capped pilasters at the angles with floral decorations to the frieze and base. The cast handle has lions heads hinges at the base and four finials to the angles. The clock stands on bun feet.

The gilt finely engine turned dial with Roman numerals signed Payne London with typical delicate 'Payne' open heart blued steel hands.

Eight day chain and fusee movement with platform lever escapement, signed on the backplate Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, and with slow/fast for regulation adjustment.

This style of case is associated with high quality French clockmakers, notably Breguet.
