Burr walnut and ebony lined case with bevel glazed panels to the top and sides, adjustable brass bun feet, cast brass bezel.
Dial
Round silvered dial with Roman numerals signed Thomas Mercer No 1231 with subsidiary seconds dial and state of wind indicator, blued steel stop/start button and blued steel hands.
Movement
The high quality eight day chain fusee movement with Harrison's maintaining power, substantial spotted plates with four double screwed pillars. The spotted escapement platform signed Mercer, 13 Jewels, with helical balance spring, cut bimetal balance with circular balance weights, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement.

This superb precision eight day mantel chronometer was made by the famous chronometer makers Thomas Mercer. They supplied many of the top clockmakers with their mantel chronometers, including Charles Frodsham and Breguet. Thomas Mercer was founded in 1858 and was the longest surviving chronometer makers in the world and made 30,000 marine chronometers.
