A fine ormolu mantel timepiece by an important clockmaker. Circa 1835

Case

The numbered cast and chased ormolu rococo inspired waisted case with foliate scrolls and foliage, a mask of a Green Man below the dial with open mouth and leaf beard. Scroll feet on a laurel wreath bordered plinth with foliage.

Dial

The four inch silvered dial with Roman numerals and sunburst engine-turned centre with rise and fall adjustment under XII. Blued-steel heart hour hand and straight minute hands.

Movement

The eight day single fusee movement with round plates signed Vulliamy London and numbered 1140 with semi deadbeat escapement and rise - fall regulation to the numbered pendulum.

Height 10 ¾ inches (27.5 cm)

For similar examples see No. 950 which was the 5th of the 'new pattern', and was delivered to the Duke of Wellington 7 September 1827. At the time, the Duke of Wellington was re-modelling Apsley House, 'No 1 London’.

The 1st of this pattern No. 930 was delivered to Dr Burney 23 Dec 1826. Another of this pattern, No. 946, which unusually has a bronze finish, was belatedly bought by Queen Victoria in 1843 for £30, including mahogany stand and glass shade.
