An imposing, mahogany dial clock made for Somerset House. Circa 1841

Case

The solid mahogany case with stepped concave moulded surround and brass sound frets to the sides. Substantial concave moulded brass hinged bezel.

Removable panel to rear for access.

Dial

The 15 inch silvered dial with Roman numerals signed Vulliamy London and beautifully engraved, General Register Office with the Royal Cypher of Queen Victoria and rise and fall adjustment above. Blued steel heart hour hand and tapered minute hand.

Movement

The eight day, double fusee movement with heavy plates and five pillars, semi deadbeat escapement to the flat steel rod pendulum with heavy numbered bob and knurled rating nut. Striking the hours on a bell. Signed on the backplate Vulliamy London and numbered 1394.

Diameter 23 inches (60 cm)

This clock is currently on display as part of the Benjamin Vulliamy Exhibition at the Science Museum London.
